What Is Remapping

ECU Remapping via the OBD Port (on board diagnostics) is the most commonly used method for ECU Remapping. A laptop connects through an interface to the vehicle's OBD Port, allowing access to the ECU memory where engine control data is stored.

The Remapping Process

A copy of the ECU data is first extracted through the OBD Port and saved. This backup allows restoration to original settings if needed. The data is then loaded into HEX editing software where technicians locate data tables called "maps" (the origin of the term "ECU Remapping"). These maps control various engine parameters including fuelling, boost pressure, timing, and other functions.

Settings are optimized within these maps, and the ECU is reprogrammed with the new configuration. After loading the updated settings, a complete data logging session is conducted to verify the vehicle operates at full potential and confirm no issues have developed.
