ECU Remapping via BDM

17 April 2009 · Stuart Elliott

Another method of ECU remapping on vehicles fitted with ECUs that contain a Motorola MPC555–565 processor is via a BDM Module. This BDM module can read and program three data areas on the ECU: the processor, EPROM, and EEPROM. It represents "a very safe way of chiptuning ECUs giving the user a full back up copy of ECU data."

The BDM module also proves invaluable for recovering ECUs after a failed flash through OBD ECU remapping. At Mas Performance, the BDM module remains an essential tool in their toolkit not only for this recovery purpose but also "for when an ECU cannot be read though the obd socket so ECU remapping can always be done."
